The world is chaotic

There are cat hairs on unimaginable places, surfaces you wouldn’t believe. Cats have their own way of saluting spring: flourishing new hair every two days. I sometimes wonder if my apartment is big enough for them, given that it’s all they know. It’s an extremely limited environment and yet, they seem to enjoy it. And I think to myself: is it because they don’t have access to the outside world? I bet they wouldn’t prefer to stay at home if they knew the wonders – and terrors – of the freedom land. I feel like a narcissistic mother, overprotecting them, because I know it is not possible to let them go out as freely as their instincts would prefer. We even share the same bathroom.

The pandemic made me realize I’ve always lived as an apartment cat. Peeking through the curtains, curious yet scared, daring myself to think what I would do if I had the courage to explore the new world. I guess my mind is for me what the apartment is for my cats, an extremely limited environment. Although I know my chances are better than theirs if I actually go outside. We now live together and I have as much cat hair on me as they have on them, and the world is still chaotic.
